A rice-based resist paste is carefully applied over the pattern before the fabric is repeatedly dipped, dyed, and dried. After the dyeing process is complete, the paste is removed by hand, revealing the soft light motif against the deep plant-dyed ground.
The fabric is handwoven ramie, also known as Xia Bu, with a naturally raw, breathable texture. You can see the uneven weave, slubs, and subtle irregularities in the surface — these are part of the handmade character of the textile, not flaws.
When hung in a doorway, this noren works as a soft divider between spaces. It helps slow and soften airflow while still remaining breathable. It also gently filters light and offers visual privacy without fully closing off the room.
